Horrible Bosses

Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day are out to get rid of their bosses once and for all. They are starting to get really tired of their daily routines. One boss doesn't give you credit for the work you do, another's son tries to call you "the golden one", and finally one who wants you to sleep with her before you marry your fiance.

Jason Bateman plays the lovable Nick Hendricks who works as an accountant at a big time company. He works from 6:00 in the morning to 1:00 in the morning. Nick hears that there is a big promotion for the senior vice president at his company and he has worked there for eight years and thinks he deserves a little credit for that. Within the first couple of minutes at the meeting Mr.Harken, Nick's boss, has announced that he will be taking on the job himself and only 85% of the salary. Nick's blood pressure is sent through the roof as he is confused by what Harken has just said. If Nick wants that job he has to kill his boss right? He deserves that job, right?

Kurt Buckman is portrayed by the talented Jason Sudeikis. Kurt works for Jack Pellit at Pellit and Son Chemical. He is a very sweet guy who flirts with every girl he meets. Jack would rather Kurt be his son as opposed to Bobby, his son who works with him. In a change of course after leaving his office, Jack has a heart attack and crashes his car. Bobby, Jack's son, is left in charge of things around the office now. Bobby turns the whole office upside down and tries to completely wipe out everything his dad left behind. Now that Kurt has a reason to kill his boss, he consults Nick and another friend with the same problem, Dale.

Dale is portrayed by Charlie Day. Dale works as a dental assistant for a sex-crazed woman named Julia. As he works there, he discovers that his boss is completely mad and wants him to sleep with her knowing that he is engaged. While he is working there, he has to try and avoid any possible contact with Julia. But who can resist Jennifer Aniston right? To make matters even worse, Stacy, Dale's fiance, comes to the dentist where  he works for an appointment to drill her teeth. When she is finally knocked out by the anesthesia, Julia then proceeds to tell him that he should sleep with her on top of Stacy's unconscious body! He proceeds to turn her down.......again! At first killing her seemed to far fetched. Then that stuff with Stacy happened and it tipped him over the edge.

Now that they have their motives, they need to decide who is taking care of the messy business. After meeting at Kurt's house, they decide to hire a hit man to carry out the operation. They go to a motel and look on a laptop and find a guy that they think is going to kill them. In a turn of events, the man tells them that they have misread the ad. Instead of killing people, he urinates on other men for the money. Flabbergasted by the confession, the guys have to think quick and decide to go to a dangerous bar and find a man who will do it for them.

This is where Jamie Foxx's character, Dean 'MF' Jones, comes in. He leads them to believe that he will murder their bosses at the cost of $5,000. Although they believed him and he was very persuasive, he tells them $5,000 worth of murder advice! Kurt, Nick, and Dale are not very happy.

After still processing things, the guys decide to take matters into their own hands. Finding information on their bosses, they decide who will kill which boss. Kurt doesn't kill anyone, he will be getting information on Julia, Nick will kill Pellit, and Dale will kill Harken. After finally getting into position, Dale calls Nick and says that he can't do it because he is too afraid that it will be traced back to them.

Changing their minds and getting out of their bosses houses, they head to a bar to discuss things. When they get there, they drink and decide to go home and sleep it off. As they get into their cars, they are approached by two policeman and are asked to come to the station. After being asked about where they were before the bar, they are told that Pellit was murdered.

Nick and Kurt knew who killed him, but if they told, they would end up in jail themselves. Thinking quickly about what to do, they decided to wear a wire and get Harken to confess to the murder. Upon arriving to the Harken residence, Kurt is distracted by Harken's wife. They rush into Harken's home office, and while Kurt is missing, Harken confesses to everything! So with that said, Kurt is to blame for the whole mess up.

Shortly after leaving the Harken residence, Harken comes speeding up behind them in his Cadillac, hitting Kurt's car several times. After the crash, Gregory, Kurt's Nav Guide, he stops the car and Harken hits them again. Now held at gunpoint, Nick, Kurt, and Dale step out of the car.Little does Harken know, Gregory, the Nav Guide, is recording him. Harken says he is going to frame them for the murder of Pellit. Shooting himself in the leg, he tosses the gun to Dale and Dale, being the "bright one" he is, catches the gun.

After the police arrive, the three heroes are shortly under arrest, until Gregory speaks up and says that it is procedure that he record all conversations. Nick speaks up and says "Play it just after the crash." Gregory does and Harken is placed under arrest.

Nick got the promotion, Dale caught Julia trying to sleep with him on video with the help of MF Jones, and Kurt doesn't have to put up with Bobby anymore. All's well that ends well.

IMDb vs. Coming Soon

For this post we were instructed to do a compare/contrast post. We had to pick two websites based upon our blog topic. IMDb is one of the most famous of the sites where you can find information on a new movie that you would like to see. Internet Movie Database (IMDb) can tell you the year the film was made, who was starring in it, how much money it made.

Another site you might want to check out is www.comingsoon.net. This site is as well very informative for movies. The only probable difference being is that they give you release dates for the next few years. Author of the reviews on the website, Scott Chitwood, makes sure that you know what to expect when you go to see your film of choice.

Let's look at some similarities shall we? Comparing the two sites is pretty easy. IMDb and Coming Soon are alike when it comes to making sure you know who will be starring in the film. For instance if you are going to see What To Expect When You're Expecting this Friday night, you might want to check and see what they are both saying. Afterward, you can probably go with your gut and see it if you still want to.

Another similarity is that they allow you to freely put your comment on the site. Let's just say you went to see Pirates: Band of Misfits last month and you thought it was pretty good for the kids to see, you could possibly put, "My kids and I laughed until we cried.", or, "Anyone who has small children between the ages of 5 and 15 should see this movie." However there are people that don't really care to much for the films they have seen. If you didn't like the film you could put, "The film was a big upset for me and my family. It was the biggest waste of money ever."

A difference however is that not all movies for this year and next year are listed. The Dark Knight Rises, was listed for on Coming Soon along with the cast and crew for the movie. However on IMDb, the movie and many more are not listed. Some say it is because the film got such a low rating from critics that it didn't deserve to be mentioned on the website. Christian Bale and Morgan Freeman are two of the biggest, hot shot actors in the film.

So you decide, IMDb or Coming Soon. Either way, I am one million percent positive that you will find the information that you are looking for.

Interview with Megan Barnes

For this blog we were instructed to do an interview. Movies are more popular than you think these days, thanks in large part to 3D. When you go to see a movie that almost all of your friends are wanting to see, you are bound to tell them what you thought. That is what this blog is all about. What movie you think could have had a sequel. Or who is your favorite actor/actress?

  • What is your favorite genre of movie and why?
Comedy, because I'm the person who likes to laugh a lot.

  • Who is your favorite actor/actress and why?
Taylor Lautner, because he is good looking and I love the movies that he is in.
  • If you were to make a movie one day, who would star in it and what would be the title?

Crazy People, and the people in it would be my sister and my family mostly.
  • What movie do you think should have a sequel?
Abduction.

You see, Megan has an opinion just like everyone else. If you feel like a movie could use a sequel, you could find the director’s email address and email them your thoughts. For example, Rob Zombie remade the first two Halloween’s. At the end of Halloween 2, Zombie left audiences hanging with Laurie Strode (her real name was Angel Myer’s, Michael’s sister) in a white hallway with her dead mother walking toward her with a white horse.
All I’m trying to say is that no matter what kind of genre you like, as long as you know that it is your favorite, the genre will never die.

Horror Craze

What is your favorite kind of horror film? Halloween, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Friday The 13th? Well whatever it is I am pretty sure about 99% of you don't know what movie started the craze for horror films.

Technically, the genre didn't get its big break until the 1930s. Dracula an Frankenstein had originally started off the genre. During this time everything was about something being alive or princes and kings turned vampires. Not only that, but they were completely ignored until you throw a knife welding maniac in the mix.

Later on in the 1940s, movies like I Walked With A Zombie, came out with the zombie craze. Zombies are nothing more than the living dead, flesh eating mutants. When they smell flesh, they are ready to chow down and eat all the flowing flesh they can. All in all, the movie mentioned before started the zombie craze.

Then the 50s rolled around. A movie that people say is a very weird and clueless film The Creature From The Black Lagoon. With a mysterious creature that goes around stealing people and eating them, the creature seemed to scare the socks off of people who seen it.

Back to the 1960s we go. In 1968, Rosemary's Baby, was a Gothic horror film. When an aspiring actor befriends a couple, he soon finds out that the couple is oddly fascinated with witchcraft. During his friendship with the couple, he finds out that the only way that his career will take of would be to have the Devil's child. As he finds this out, he goes to the couple- knowing they did witchcraft - and asks them for help. He soon has the Devil's child and becomes famous beyond his wildest dreams.

Ah the 1970s. During the 70s, many movies like Halloween, brought the knife welding maniac forward. Halloween is based on the murder of three babysitters who have no clue that Halloween 1978, is going to be their last. Stalking babysitters seemed to be the perfect plan to scare people, and indeed it was.

Can you say 1980s movie fever? This was the year that many horror movies came out. Halloween had sparked many more ax welding maniac movies to be made. Films like Friday The 13th and Trick r' Treat had just hit the scene. During this time box offices were blowing up left and right. With the new coming villains Jason Voorehees and Freddy Kreuger, people had a hard time picking the film they wanted to see. Machete or razor hands? They had to ask themselves these things.

How To Make A Box Office Smash Hit

First step, write your script and find your title. Two, find out where you want the movie to take place. Three, find the actors/actresses that would work in the film. Finally make the film and hope it turns out as you have hoped. The following blog is an example of a director who has made millions of money on a short budget and how he made a box office hit.

Movies these days cost a lot of money to make. Back in the late 1970s, people like John Carpenter, the mastermind behind the Halloween series, had only $320,000, but turned into a multi-million dollar project.

With this short amount, Carpenter had to think fast about how he was going to be able to hire actors, fix up the set and make the music. He and his lovely assistant, Debra Hill, had to think fast on this one. In a twist of fate, he came upon three female teenagers by the names of, Jamie Lee Curtis, PJ Soles, and Nancy Kyes.

During a running of The Inside Story:Halloween, Carpenter went on to talk about how he basically loved the horror genre and how he had big dreams of becoming the next big thing. He continuously says that if you have the heart and drive to do it then you are for sure going to have a smash hit with your target audience.

Shortly after hiring the actors and talking to them about the script, he had to get the outfits and set ready. With the budget he was on, he was in no position to purchase clothes and things to make a set. Actors and actresses alike, had to wear clothes they had at home. Clothes? Check. Actors and actresses? Check. Set? That was the next thing he had to work on. Carpenter and his crew had to come up with a set and fast. They put their thinking caps on and came up with a foreign town by the name of Haddonfield, Illinois.

(Rob Zombie redid Halloween in 2008 and redid Halloween 2 in 2009. He has yet to release Halloween 3D)

Filming was underway at this point and everyone was on the edge of their seats hoping that all would go well. After just twenty one days of filming John and his crew had made what was sure to be a showstopper. Until one brave critic made a bold move that stopped movie goers from seeing his film.

Film critics are a movie makers worst nightmare. They can make you or break you at any point in time. Almost three weeks had gone by when another critic made the film's ticket sales go through the roof.

Coming Soon To A Theater Near You

Movies that have recently hit theaters like The Three Stooges, The Hunger Games, and American Reunion, have been box office smash hits. But for what reason? The Hunger Games starred actors like Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, and Jennifer Lawrence.
Chitwood said "Overall I think The Hunger Games is worth seeing." In other terms it means any teenager who wants to see this movie should. "I give the movie a 8.8. Some Teens may not agree with me because 'little details' were missing, but that is why we all have opinions."

The Three Stooges opened over the past two weekends. Although it was a box office hit, Scott Chitwood, an avid movie reviewer, said "I'd recommend it for anyone ten and under." It was a big flop to him. Public reviews showed otherwise. People on his website were saying things like, "We laughed so much we cried and our stomachs were hurting."
Chitwood gave the film a whopping 5.5. Audiences were stunned with Chitwood's bravery to point fingers at the Farrely brothers who had created this movie.

Other movies you can expect to see this summer are The Dark Knight Rises, the shocking end to the Batman series. Christian Bale will be back to play the mysterious Batman. Along with other returning actors such as Morgan Freeman.

For those of you with kids, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, hits theaters latger in June. The four comedians that were in the first two are back again.
